Stock Investing X introduces stock buyback database

Stock Investing X has catalogued stock buybacks and put them in a database for easy comparison. This will make it much easier for investors to see what companies are buying back their stock, as well as to compare one company's buyback to another.

/Stock Market PR News/ - CLEVELAND, OH, October 17, 2006 -- Stock Investing X announced the release of a new stock buyback database, hoping to make it easier for investors to find and compare stock repurchases. The database will contain the stock's buyback offer, the estimated percentage of the stock being repurchased, and the period over which the stock will be repurchased.

"We are trying to give stock buybacks the same amount of press and documentation that has been given to dividends in the past," says James Dunn, owner and operater of Stock Investing X. Stock Investing X will screen through companies' buyback announcements, calculate the percentage of the total shares being repurchased, and enter all of the relevant information into a table that can be easily viewed from their site.

The database comes as a reaction to the growing number of stock buybacks and their increasing affect on the price of stocks. According to Standard and Poor's, S&P 500 buybacks have increased 43% since 2005, and 175% since 2004. The second quarter saw $116 billion in buybacks, a new record.

"The record $116 billion in buybacks is the result of over 40% of the S&P 500 companies reducing their share count during the second quarter," says Howard Silverblatt, Senior Index Analyst at Standard & Poor's. "The unprecedented expenditure on buybacks and the resulting share count reduction is having a material affect on both earnings-per-share and cash flow. Left unabated, this will eventually impact the supply of open market shares, and therefore the share price itself." Share buybacks are expected to continue to grow throughout 2006.

Currently, dividends are well documented and easy to search through and compare, but stock buybacks are still relatively obscure, leaving investors to scavage through news headlines looking for buybacks and guesing as to the magnitude of the buyback relative to other stocks. Stock Investing X hopes to change this by cataloguing stock buybacks.
